Report: Preparations

Alraune

marigold A lot of people, who like herbal remedies, would like to grow their own herbs.

But often this fails becouse one has no garden or no knowledge about gardening.

For this reason we startet a herb gardening with very simple equipment.

These are the conditions we had for the gardening:

  • A sunny window-sill or a balcony should be sufficient.
  • No previous gardening knowledge is required.
  • The equipment should be cheap and easy to buy.
  • The herbs should be suitable for container-gardening.
  • The should be usable already in the first year.
  • The uses of the herbs should have a wide spectrum.
Not many herbs where suitable with all these conditions. But this is no problem, because in a small container there is not much place for different kind of herbs.

We decides for three kind of herbs:

You also need:
  • A gardening container, about 60 cm long (2 feet)
  • A saucer for the container
  • Pebble stones or polystyrene chunks
  • 5-10 liters of garden-mold (1-2 gallons)
  • Pots for watering
  • Sticks for labeling (voluntary)
  • Fertilizer sticks (later)

Time to saw

If you have a sunny windowsill or you are ready to build an artificial light with a fluorescent lamp, yaou can start sawing already in February.

If you like to grow on the balcony or in the garden, you should wait till March or April.
